“The One” Lyric Video

Motion Graphics * Kinetic Typography * Music

Problem Statement

To showcase a skillset in Kinetic Typography, a 20-30 second snippet of a lyric video was required of this project, designed vertically for Instagram Reels as a promotional piece. My aim was to have fun with the process and produce something that would provide insight into my personality, so my song of choice was “The One” by INJI. The track is fun and full of personality, and I concluded that it would be a fitting song to animate type to.

Process

My foremost goal in my approach was to create a true showcase of how motion can characterize text. I decided the chorus would be ideal for a promotional piece – it also would allow for me to explore what a “beat drop” could look like visually. I borrowed a general color palette of whites and blues from the cover art of the single, and from there I gravitated towards an up-in-the-air setting. Flying through the sky to watch animated lyrics became the perfect opportunity to explore environmental parallax for that added touch of motion.

Conclusion

The lyric video snippet of “The One” turned into a project that I hold very close to my heart. I found myself treasuring the creation process, and the result was highly rewarding. This project served as a strong reminder of why I love what I do, and I love when I am able to create something that has the capacity to spread joy. Overall, the lyric video forms a fun and captivating experience using a combination of type and motion to reflect the song.
